The Classic Tour is a great introduction to the highlights of Morocco for both the first time visitor and repeat travellers.
Starting at the port of Tanger Med we head south to Chefchoen for our first stop and an explore of the medina. Then its off to Azrou in the Middle Atlas for a night in the forests before our first day off road south through the Cedar Forests. As the route continues further south leaving the Middle Atlas, the High Atlas can be seen in the distance. Now we head deep into the High Atlas crossing over the highest drivable pass in North Africa.
Descending from the mountains we enter the Dades Gorge before heading to the Todra Gorge and its palm groves. Turning south again the route heads into the Jebel Sahro mountains, were the local tribes put up fierce resistance to the French army last century. After a wild camp in the mountains we continue south for 2 days in the desert. After a few days on the road we head into Zagora for a well deserved rest and a chance to get the vehicles checked over.
Refreshed we hit the road again heading for the vast sand dunes of Erg Cheggaga, we spend the night here enjoying desert sunsets and viewing the stars. After a night in the dunes we head out across Lac Iriki for a last day in the desert before turning north through the Anti Atlas and back across the High Atlas.. Our final destination is Marrakech where we will enjoy and last night meal and the sights and smells of Jemaa El Fna.
The Classic tour gives a great insight in the varied landscapes of Morocco with some great off road driving and a mix of wildcamping and formal campsites. Perfect for new and experienced travellers alike.
