Our second Western Sahara route is another for the true desert adventurer, exploring the vast empty desert landscapes of this part of Morocco.
Heading down the Atlantic Coast towards Tantan the route takes us along Plage Blanche. From here the route heads inland and south and into the desert for a few days. Rejoining the road need Laayoune, we again travel along the coast to Boujdour.
After stocking up on food, water and fuel, our route turns inland across the vast desert wilderness. Small coastal hills and Sebkhas give way to flat desert where very little signs of life will be seen.
Eventually we reach the remote desert town of Smara. From here we turn north passing remnants from desert conflicts and crossing dry lakes as we leave the Western Sahara and head back into Morocco.
We eventually re-join the asphalt near Assa and head into our first formal campsite after 4 days in the desert for a good meal and some drinks in the bar.
The final sections of this tour wind up through the Anti Atlas mountains and then over the High Atlas before finishing in Marrakech for some well deserved luxury and sight seeing.
This tour is very remote with long distances and driving hours. The majority of the time will be spent wild camping or in basic campsites. Vehicles will need a range of 750km to cover the longest section between fuel stops.
